Shut-off Valve Replacement(s)

Kentucky State Plumbing Code requires a shutoff valve for the water service at the point where it enters into the home or before serving a plumbing fixture or point of use. Also, each plumbing fixture requires an individual shutoff valve for both hot and cold water lines that serve that plumbing fixture. Kentucky State Plumbing Code also requires an individual shutoff valve for the water heater. It's important to note that no water piping branch can be between the shutoff valve and the top of the water heater.

It's important to check your shutoff valves once a year to ensure they're working properly. When a sink or toilet starts to leak or even worse a pipe bursts in the home, you'll want to shut the water off ASAP. The shutoff valve will be the first step in stopping that leak however if it is ceased from internal corrosion then shutting off the water might be a real problem. If you did get the water shut off, then believe it or not turning it back on could cause a leak in the valve itself especially if it's old. Be sure to have an adjustable wrench on hand to tighten the packing nut on the valve if it starts to leak. A shutoff valve replacement is a common job our plumbers perform on a regular basis.
