There comes a time when you may have no choice but to replace your tub faucet. The type of tub and walls you have will determine the complexity of replacing your existing tub faucet. Sometimes it makes sense to cut the drywall behind your tub to access the existing tub valve in the wall and replace it with a new one.
If you have an old two or three-handle tub faucet there are a couple of things to keep in mind. One is that modern tub faucets are single-lever valves and are designed to prevent scalding. This is a great feature but your existing faucet might have multiple handles and therefore multiple holes in the wall. In this case, we would install a trim cover called a remodel plate to cover the holes on the left and right of your new single lever faucet.
If you want to replace your Bathtub Faucet there are a few things to consider. Below is a basic checklist while considering your next new faucet.
- What type of finish will you want—IE chrome, brass, nickel, or stainless steel? Remember, if you are going to need a remodel plate, the finishes may be limited.
- If drywall needs to be replaced, most plumbers aren’t pros at drywall patching and you will need a pro to repair the hole. Holes are typically 2’x2′.
